FucoSan – Health from the sea [FucoSan – Sundhed fra havet] is a German-Danish project funded by the EU Regional Development Program Interreg Va for three years starting in March 2017. Under the direction of the UKSH Eye Hospital (Kiel), seven other partners have combined cross-border expertise from research to commercial-sustainable use. The aim is to show possible applications of the valuable marine bio-resource of Fucoidane for health and well-being.
Project tasks are the sustainable provision of the marine raw material and the development of economic processing. In three pilot applications, selected fucoidan fractions are specifically tested for their suitability in cosmetics, ophthalmology and regenerative medicine so that all knowledge gained is pooled. In a project database, the collected information will be made available to research and industry.
