Project Description:

In line with the concept of the EU agenda for sustainable blue growth in the Baltic Sea region, the ALLIANCE project promotes the cooperation of blue biotech players. Blue biotechnology is a sector of great potential as Europe moves towards a bio-based economy. It can be tapped for products such as new medicines, biofuels, foods and supplements. It will also play a key role in the development of clean water ecosystem services. This potential is impressive, but – until today – largely unused, the realization is still in its infancy.

One major difficulty in bringing blue biotech products to market is the fact that not every single Baltic Sea country can provide the resources and know-how on its own to navigate from the idea to the finished product , The Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance seeks to fill this gap by developing and implementing optimal transnational product development chains. These will enable efficient use and access to the full range of facilities, (bio) resources and know-how available in the region and beyond, thus pooling national capacities.

Alliance experts know the structure and specific disciplines of the sector and can respond to their needs. We are working to create a working network of actors as we work with our first customer “cases”. We follow a needs-based approach and develop a truly useful range of services. One of our main goals is the development of blue biotechnology products through integrated transnational value chains.

To accomplish this, we align our users with the services, facilities and experts they need to take their idea to the next level. We not only seek the right partners to drive a project, but also help to create the necessary financial, legal and organizational conditions for the project to be realized within the transnational product development chain.
